Children absent from school without good reason may be putting themselves or others at risk. By tackling persistent truants, schools, parents and local authorities can work together to crack down on this problem.
Setting up an anti-truancy scheme is a simple and low cost solution, based on the use of mobile phones, mobile email devices and pagers. Parents are instantly notified as soon as a pupil is absent without prior consent. Schoolteachers, local police and Education Welfare Officers can also be included using group messaging technology.
Parents can rest easy that the whereabouts of their children is always known, schools can improve attendance and any crime committed by absentees is reduced.
